SmartCrop is unique because “the plant is the sensor.” By combining plant biology and agronomic science, SmartCrop can indicate high stress levels, plant disease, crop health status, and plant water needs. SmartCrop allows you to “listen to your crop®” by giving you an additional tool when making crucial decisions about your agriculture operation.
SmartCrop can alert the grower via a text message or e-mail when specific events, like rainfall or high stress levels, are occurring in the field. Smartfield’s online web service, CropInsight, provides a variety of different crop data including plant canopy temperature, ambient temperature, relative humidity, precipitation, heat units, days since planting, and daily stress levels. CropInsight is a service that aims to place the crop at the grower’s fingertips at any moment. It is convenient, information rich, and easy to use. This service is only available through a yearly subscription fee.
The SmartCrop Basic Package includes:
- Smartfield Base Station
- Two (2) IR Field Sensors with Standard Mounting Poles
- Rain Gauge
- Relative Humidity Pod
The equipment for a Basic SmartCrop system retails for $2,699. The CropInsight subscription service is $599 per year and supports up to 4 fields within 1500 feet.
The SmartCrop basic package can be upgraded to a Package Plus, where 3 options are available.

The SmartCrop Drip Package supports 5 Data Collection Points (DCP’s) as shown below:

3. SmartCrop Sensor (starts at $2,699)
The SmartCrop Sensor Package supports SmartCrop Basic and up to 22 additional Data Collection Points (DCP’s):

Data Collection Points for a Base Station
Any Base Station has the capacity to add one (1) wired DCP and up to twenty-four (24) wireless DCP’s.
